Dark Season contains some great dialogue.  Here are some examples:

Thomas and Reet discuss their relationship with Marcie:

Thomas: Robert Coles was going on about her the other day.
Reet: Which Robert Coles, Robert Coles with no chin or Robert Coles with nasty shoes?
Thomas: Nasty shoes
Reet: Don’t tell me, he said Marcie was weird
Thomas: Well, he said we were weird.  He said two fifth years shouldn’t be hanging out with a third year.  Isn’t natural.
Reet: He’s right, it is weird.  I’ve never seen shoes like it…

Reet on the overeager Olivia: Gravity readings are normal, so it must be an Earth child, though it bears little resemblance to the rest of the species.

Marcie on the benefits of being paranoid: Paranoia is an intelligent form of common sense.  None of us knows what’s going on around us… We’re all in the dark, and it’s getting darker.

Marcie on why she always carries a canoe paddle in her rucksack: You never know when you’re going to be up the creek [ooh-er missus]

Thomas attempts to define symbiosis: …derived from the ancient Greek, meaning man with bad breath.

Marcie deconstructs Thomas’s purpose in the plot: One day Thomas, I’m going to buy you a T shirt with a great big question mark on it.

Thomas has a technobabble revelation: the keyboard is superficial.  There’s a flatbed digitiser underneath.  We’ve interfaced a single membrane grid!

Miss Maitland on the joy of teaching:

Miss Maitland: You there, look after the class
Thomas: What do we do?
Miss Maitland: Now you know how I feel every morning!

The wisdom of Marcie:

People find enlightenment in the strangest of places.  Here are some words of wisdom from the wonderous Marcie to aid you in your daily life:

If I am to teach you two anything it’s this:

- Wherever and whoever you are, there is a strangeness in things…
- Shut up and do as I say!
- Keep your head down!
- Never Guess!
